Raagi (On Khan Saheb Ustad Aslam Khan Niyazi Sahab)

This piece is written on Khan Saheb Ustad Aslam Khan Niyazi Sahab.Niyazi Sahab is the guru of Pdt.Kamalakar Naik Ji ,who is from Agra Gharana.Pdt Kamlakar ji is the vocl classical Guru of Dear Ameya to whom I have accompanied for couple of classical concerts.

It is always a real joy listening to the great Ustad, the avatara of lord Shiva himself ,when on stage.Whether it is khayals or bhajans or semiclassical geners of vocal music like Ghazals or kawwalis, Niyazi Sahab is like The great himalaya- which scantly anyone can cross and at the other time like a river Ganges ,in which one can have bath in the abundance of pure water of knowledge endlessly.

Not only Niyazi Sahab has sung the most difficult bandishes/ with the utmost ease but also written those great melifluous bandishes (compositions)on HIS own with a pen name “KHUSHRANG”.

Equally fantastic writing by Ameya on Niyazi sahab.

Shuruvaat huye aise
Gana ga rahe dhund Raagi
Man ki tar jod ke aise
Khila dali ragoki chupi kali.

Chalta raha gana tirki-firki
Pyar ka bhara pal tha woh abhi.
Mujhe laga kya ajib karishma hai?
Raagi ban raha hai suro ka sathi

Har ghadi, naya gana sunata raha Raagi
Apne bhandar ko khol, chamatkar kar diya sabhi.
Aisa hona chahiye man ka safed prem,
Jo kare sabko khushi-khushi anuraagi.

Pyar se gane ki bhavana
Chamaka rahi mandir ki jyoti
Bhajan ki misra mithas,
Akhiri sunke rahe ghayal sabhi.
Sabhi or chali Tali ki urjit badhayi.

Aaise gane ki gunj kum hi dekhne ko milti.
Khandani Ragi- apne pas inko rakhte, samajke ‘amanat’ bhari.
Aap hai Ek adbhoot Raagi.
Unchi hai Apki sundar gayaki,
Naman se jhukau mai sheesh Abhi.
