I am great fond of sports- whether its cricket, soccer , kho kho, tennis or any anything. All kinds of characters in the sport fancy me- starting from player, coach to referees and umpires, curators to of course spectators. I usually wind up seeing the whole match ball to ball without missing a single moment.
On the similar lines I watched the world cup final. I knew from the beginning that if I sit and see the match and I can make any team win or loss with my will power and the same happened-India on. I was happy that once again I did it. However, my mood of happiness changed when the BCCI announced cash awards for the victorious team. Somehow, the reward felt tasteless and vulgar. I wish they had announced a new ground like Shivaji Park for children and grownups to play in Mumbai or surrounding areas in the honor of Sachin and the victorious team (better if they are also built in other parts of country where ICC World Cup matches not took place).
Memories of politicians rushing to announce monetary compensation to the dead and the injured after an accident or a catastrophe rushed to my brain.
Money, money, money…distressing and depressing.
